Professor Absalom's Hands-on Concerts for Children

Join Mike Absalom and his Fou-Fou Band for a merry hands-on musical experience. Mike recites his comic kids' verse and sings his own songs, accompanying himself on the accordion, harp or guitar.

There's fun for everyone, as Mike gradually adds an improvised band to his show (the Fou-Fou Band !). The musicians are chosen from members of the audience. Grouped about Mike, the children play a wide variety of rhythm instruments (supplied by Mike), sing the choruses, operate his wooden puppets and create musical mayhem. Inspired by the Fou-Fou Bands (improvised music on kitchen utensils or whatever was available) that flourished at sea in the days of sail, Mike developed his entertainment while employed as the in-house shanty man at the Vancouver Maritime Museum, British Columbia, Canada.

Mike has performed this show at the Pacific National Exhibition, the Dragon Boat Festival, Ladner May Days, Nanaimo First Night, Burnaby Village Museum and countless other festivals, not to mention scores of schools and community centres in British Columbia, Canada
